Overview:
The 2025 World Fashion Festival presents a student designer competition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film Mahogany, starring Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams. The film’s fashion, influenced by Japanese theater and legendary designer Erté, serves as the inspiration for this year's competition.
This is a prestigious opportunity for emerging fashion designers to showcase their creativity on an international stage while paying tribute to one of fashion’s most celebrated aesthetics.

Competition Guidelines

Eligibility:
-
Open to fashion design students currently enrolled in college/university programs.

Individual or team submissions (maximum of two students per team).

A portfolio submission with at least three sketches of past work is required.

Design Requirements:

Participants must create a runway-ready look inspired by the Mahogany theme.

Designs should be a modern interpretation of Erté’s signature style while embracing Japanese theater influences.

Fabric choices should reflect luxury, movement, and embellishment, such as silk, velvet, metallics, and beading.

Submission Process:

Phase 1: Sketches & Concept Proposal

Submit three concept sketches with descriptions explaining:

The inspiration behind the design.

How Erté’s and Japanese theater influences are incorporated.

Material and textile choices.

Phase 2: Finalists Selection

10 finalists will be selected to bring their designs to life.

Phase 3: Final Presentation

Finalists will present their completed designs during the 2025 World Fashion Festival Runway Show.
